'Haven't you heard yet? I thought you would've since you were close to her. It's Morgan... she was found dead under the tree house in the woods. They say it was suicide.' Since hearing these words five years ago, Ari has felt betrayed by the closest friend he'd ever had. She made a promise that she'd be strong for him; she'd made him promise the same. So why? Why would she do this? After taking a short-cut home, coincidentally past the tree house in which they played and where Morgan met her end, Ari discovers something that completely changes his view of what happened. 'No, she didn't fall......... she was pushed!'

"You're in a bubble, Ari. You're floating away, and everyone who ever knew you, who ever loved you, is trying to catch up with you." "What am I supposed to do, then?" I say. "Well..." he starts, looking at the sunset. "You just have to find that one person that can make you pop." Ari is a strong-willed teenage squatter living on the outskirts of San Francisco. She goes through her life hidden from the prying eyes of society-- she's the one peering from the darkness, the one pickpocketing your purse, the one watching from the top of the roof. Her life revolves around who she is and how far she is willing to go. She's alone and free. It's what sets her apart, what keeps her human. Until now. Ari's at a crossroads-- one that will change her life forever. Secret connections with guys she hardly knows, a mysterious gang that seems to follow her around, strange hallucinations and flashbacks that can't get out of Ari's head. Suddenly, Ari's hidden life -- one that she tried so hard to preserve -- is becoming more and more visible. Danger lurks even in the sunniest of cities. That's what Ari's drawn to. That's what will kill her.
