Prologue
What's so important about this job anyways?" Simon asks, rubbing his finger protectively. "Half a million dollars, that's what," I say, not looking at him. He runs his fingers through his hair. "Half a million? What would we even do with that?" I look up at him as sarcastic as ever, "Buy a Tyrannosaurus Rex with it, duh."
He looks at me, worried. "Where would we put that, Babe?" I roll my eyes. "Simon, sweetie, I was being sarcastic." "Oh." He looks down and blushes, "I knew that..." I flip to the next page. "Huh." "What?" He asks, hovering closer. "It says that he lives in Oxford, Mississippi. Isn't that where you were dropped off?"
Simon goes silent. I totally forgot...I'm such a jerk. "Yeah," he says, sounding depressed. "I'm sorry, Simon. I just, I forgot for a minute. It's okay, Baby." I set the file down and wrap my arms around Simon.
After a few minutes I pull away. "Better?" "Yeah," He chuckles. I shift and the file falls onto the floor, a small piece of paper slips out before it hits the ground and slowly floats down after the file. I pick up the laminated paper and turn it over.
It's a picture. He looks familiar. "Hey, Simon?" "Yeah, Babe?" "He look familiar to you?" I ask, showing him the picture. He jumps out of the bed and walks around to his nightstand, basically tearing through the drawer.
"Simon?" he pulls out a crumpled, old looking piece of paper about the same size and turns it over. The same man is on Simon's paper. "That's my biological dad
