Hope Hamilton, a girl trying to make it in Chicago, is ecstatic at the thought of her boss and boyfriend, Don McKay proposing to her. Her life will become a wonderful fairytale as she steps into the roll of wife to Chicago's best and highest paid criminal lawyer and most eligible bachelor. All her dreams will surely come true! Or so she thinks. After hearing the crushing news of Don's new arm candy, Hope decides to return home to Columbus, Ohio to hide, recoup and reassess her life goals. Jacksonville, Florida seems like the perfect place for her to start over with the help of an old high school friend. It's far enough away from all the humiliation Don cast upon her and she will be out from under the depressing, sympathetic eyes of her parents. She has the perfect plan, until she ends up flat broke and busted in a trailer park known to its lively residents as The Breaks, where a washed up laundromat and a heavy smoker named Deloris may prove to be her saving grace.

“Has that ‘curl up with hot chocolate and read’ feel to it.” ~*~*~ Monica doesn't believe in life after death. Obligations, certainly. But, after her husband's death, there hasn’t been much ‘life’ to speak of. Just her kids, her farm, and the man who rents it to run his business, Marshal. She decides to change that. It won’t be like it was the first time. Nothing could be like it was with Jason. But she didn’t quite anticipate how different the dating world had become. The more she learns, the more panicked she becomes until she literally runs from her first date . . . and directly to Marshal. She was just looking for someone to ease the loneliness. What she found was a friend she’d already learned to lean on. But can Monica let go of her picture-perfect memories and embrace a new dream? With a new man?
