In the future, Earth is just one small part of a massive galactic community with millions of other planets. But it is also a world fuelled by money and piloted by the rich. As for the poor, they're left behind, kept alive only by a Galactic law that says every citizen must have access to food, water, and shelter. Zekda and Keeran Suphara are two twin siblings born into a poor family and doomed to stay on Earth forever until an opportunity arises for their family to escape off-world and live on a planet with no concept of money and that won't leave them in the dust. But that opportunity comes with a price: Zekda must join a group with people from thousands of other planets who have all been brought together by a humanitarian mobster and fight to save the galaxy from an army of robotic bug creatures that has appeared out of nowhere. The galaxy's resources are spread thin and no clue has been found as to the origin of these creatures. The Galactic Government is useless in this fight and the only hope the galaxy has comes from Zekda and her team of criminals.

Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. Then by some miracle of discovery or a cruel cosmic joke, in the mid-23rd century when all humanity could do was go out into space to search for a new home, a small planet that was black as the void around it was discovered. The humans who landed on the little planet had nearly lost all hope until they stumbled upon unknown ancient ruins beneath the planet's surface where they discovered untold amounts of bizarre advanced technology. Earth and humanity were saved, and the little planet to thank for their salvation was named Umbra. Alice is a xenoarchaeologist, her passion in life has always been the study of ancient cultures, and now she has the opportunity to study the most ancient one of them all.
