Why do we keep secrets for a long time? Is it safe to dig up the details of someone's private life?

Marlene has two situations at hand: a pregnant teenage daughter and a detached husband whom she long ago suspected is having an affair. Unable to handle both ordeals at once, she gives her spouse an ultimatum to reel him in. However, he refuses to take on his fatherly duties and spirals out of control due to alcoholism and a need to be left alone. When Marlene requests a divorce and is rejected, her husband's behavior becomes dangerously intimidating. He also refuses to leave his family. Fearing for their safety, mother and daughter find something they could use against him: disguised cameras he installed in the house to allegedly spy on his wife and kids. They do this with help from a private investigator who fears Marlene's spouse is involved in something illicit. By going after his secrets, they are about to uncover a demoralizing lifestyle he has ruthlessly kept hidden for far too long. In this intense struggle where Marlene and her offspring try to regain their peace, long-lasting bonds are formed. Others are shattered forever merely because someone concealed an enormous secret for many years.
