Miguel Rivera is an aspiring musician just like his Great-Great Grandfather, Ernesto De la Cruz, who died long time ago in Santa Cecilia, Mexico. Unfortunately, his family strictly forbids it because his Great-Great Grandmother, Imelda was married to Ernesto who left her and their daughter, Coco, Miguel's great Grandmother, to pursue his music career, and never returned so Imelda decided to ban music from her family's life later they started to have a new business, Shoemaker Business. Until, He met a young girl with his same age named Florencia "Florrie" De Leon-Smith, a Mexican-American girl with strong passion of music after they accidentally bumped each other, Miguel instantly falls for her because of her singing and her personality but he was too afraid that he will admit his feelings to her. They became quick and good friends due to their music lovers. On the Day of the Dead, his family celebrate their deceased relatives, they also invited Florrie as well. Soon later, when they visit Ernesto's mausoleum, they became invisible to everyone but only to be seen by Skeletal people. They also met Miguel's Skeletal Relatives including Imelda as well. Soon later, they met a trickster Skeletal man named Hector. Together, they form an unlikely friendship which make Hector thinks that Miguel and Florrie are together but Miguel quickly refused while Florrie was confused and sees Miguel as a friend. Now, they embark on their magical and wonderful journey to find Ernesto while Miguel was too nervous to admit his feelings to Florrie but they will later find out a shocking yet dark secret of their family.
