After WW2, and the bombing of Hiroshima, America did not discard Radioactive technology. Instead, they used it to make amazing technology, such as energy weapons and robots. They were at a horrible war with China, and a strange company known as Vault-Tec constructed 317 vaults across the country. What they did not tell America was that they were all secret experiments. One vaults door was set not to fully seal, another put everybody into cryogenic sleep. When China dropped the nuclear missiles on America, people ran into the vaults. There were not enough, and many who didn't make it were mutated into horrible creatures.

One vault in Boston, 218, was told to send 3 people ranging from 15-18 out into the Commonwealth, the name of the radiated land in Massachusetts. If it did not comply, all the residents in the vault would apparently die.

So yeah, you've all heard the story told by many. About how embracing nuclear power instead of fearing it would lead to having technology advanced quicker, you'd be partially correct about that... The year 2234 was the first and last time humanity was wrong about this statement. After the threat of WW5 many countries were locked into the doctrine of MAD (mutually assured destruction) if war with this power was to happen. But, worry not as many smart people did many smart things like make the Pip-Boy a kind of personal computer strapped to your wrist, there was also the assist bots (creative, I know) who helped the common folk with menial tasks, and stasis chambers or more commonly known as cryogenic pods (cryo pods for short). Well, after some undisclosed country(ies) launched their nukes at both the north and south poles, the world as we knew it was being flooded. People from all over the world had scrambled to try to get to their local vaults that were built by Vault-Tech to try and weather this worldwide catastrophe. Unfortunately, like many stories began the entirely of the human race was not fortunate. Nearly the entirety of the human populace was wiped out. There were was at least a few known places like Alterna and Vault 111. Well, like all the other places, they didn't last long. Alterna went into the dust after a failed attempt at flying a rocket into space to try and find a more suitable planet for humans. And almost every Vault had some sort of problem from a lack of power to improper oxygen filtration to radiation leaks. Well there was one Vault that's in an undisclosed location in a place called Vault 069 and it held the best and brightest people. This is the story of one of its only surviving residence lived with the new life that was created after ~12,000 years of not being seen. This is the story of a man nicknamed The Savior also known as (Y/N) the last remaining human on earth or at least what's left of it.

In the heart of Texas, beneath the ruins of a nation that once stood as the world's last superpower, they awaken. Fifty-five thousand soldiers, warriors of the old world, preserved in cryogenic sleep since the twilight of America. With them, their families-men, women, and children frozen alongside the last true remnants of the United States Army. It was a desperate gamble, a contingency plan set in motion by a government that saw the end coming but refused to let the dream die. If the worst should happen, if the bombs fell, these soldiers would be the ones to rebuild. The worst did happen. The world burned. The United States was reduced to ash and legend, just another name lost in the howling chaos of the wasteland. And for 29 years, the vault's technicians kept their watch, aging in silence, waiting for the day the world would be stable enough to wake them. That day has come. In 2106, the chambers unlock. Ice cracks, breath returns, and the army of the past rises once more. They step into a world that is not their own, a world that has forgotten them, a world where law and order have given way to might and madness. But they were not preserved to be forgotten. They were not sent to sleep so that the dream of America would die in the dark. They will reclaim the land. They will rebuild the nation. They will finish what was started. But the wasteland is not a battlefield. It is not a war they were trained to fight. And in this new world, the old rules mean nothing. If they are to bring back the United States, they will have to earn it. Not with guns, not with power-but with will, with sacrifice, and with the sheer, unrelenting belief that America is not just a country. It is an idea. And as long as they stand, it will never die.

H.Becquerel found uranium emitted radiation and, in1898, M.Curie extracted minute traces of radium from ore. J.Maxwell predicted electro-magnetic radiation in 1855 and Einstein formulated special relativity; mass could be converted into energy. In 1905, E.Rutherford found radon gas emitted helium nuclei. In 1919, F.Aston identified 212 naturally occurring isotopes. But why was the atomic weight of helium exactly 4.000 and not 4.032? In 1925, Rutherford transmuted nitrogen into an isotope of oxygen. By 1934, J.Chadwick had found neutrons emitted by polonium and E.Fermi had transmuted uranium into plutonium. Fermi's research reactor went critical in 1942. The 235-uranium was extracted at Oak Ridge, while plutonium was produced in Washington state and the first atom bomb exploded in New Mexico in 1945. Two more atom bombs destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ending the war with Japan. The first practical nuclear power plant was developed for submarines and, by 2021, 442 fission reactors supplied about 10% of the world's electricity. WHO THE HELL ARE WE? is a series of short books and videos describing the evolution of civilization. Almost everyone on the planet is five times wealthier than their ancestors only 50 years ago. This astonishing phenomenon has also improved health, education, and longevity. The cause; an explosive growth in ideas and productivity. It began when we learned to control fire, evolved articulate speech and stumbled onto the way to create infinite wealth; free trade. The discovery of agriculture made us richer but we also learned how to destroy wealth. Great civilization grew up but then disappeared leaving only incredible ruins and ideas. Later books detail some of the ideas and developments that increased the average life span from about 40 years to more than 80 and the average world income from less than $3 to more than $33 per person per day (and to $140 per day in some countries).

The scientists of Vault 115 know nothing of the horrors laying outside, waiting patiently for them to open their doors. Though they imagine, they hypothesize, they plan for the absolute worst. Creating super suits to protect them, whether from radiation or physical damage, they still feel as if they are not protected well enough. Centuries, generations, flitter by. Myths and hypothesis turn into facts and waiting for the inevitable. Frightened, scientists continue their studies, passing their knowledge from one generation to another, in hopes that perhaps they will find a way to protect themselves when the time comes to finally open the vault doors. There had been a counter in the main living area of the Vault, but as it counted down the time until the oxygen would run out, people kept getting worked up or scared. In response, the Overseer had it moved to the actual Vault exit, where only the Overseer had permission to go. As children growing up, we were always destined to be a scientist, to continue the research of our fathers and forefathers. We never questioned this, it was just the way things were. However, one day, two children were picked from class and taken away. They had never been seen again. All the other children in the class were confused, some frightened, some angry they had not been chosen. But no matter the emotions, it remained a mystery. A month passed, and two more children had been picked to leave the class, and they hadn't returned either. The children started to feel restless, and the parents of the missing children never said a word, only went to work and back to their rooms, never smiling. This month, the children flitter about the classroom nervously. This would be the day that they would take two more children, if they did it again. And, expectedly, the Overseer had appeared in the classroom. She calmed the children, then read two names off of her clipboard. And she read my name.
