"Will you go out with me, Elle?"

Her smile faltered. My eyes searched her blue eyes for hope. I reeked of desperation, waiting for her to reply. Her expression shifted ever so slightly, you could barely notice it, but I did. There was a slight hint of sympathy in her eyes. It broke my heart to pieces.

"Oh Shawn" she started. "I just.. I don't know how to say it to you.. but I don't feel the same way. I'm sorry"

I was crushed. "It's okay, Elle."

"No Shawn, I love you, I really do, just.. not in that way."

"Can we be friends?"

I sighed. "Yes, of course."
