Red is on the run. Her family was killed in a fire, and when Red is proven to be the last living Thornick, many suspect her to be responsible for the murder of her family. Red takes refuge with another wrongfully accused criminal, and they spend years hiding from the authorities. However, one day, while running from a search party, the two take refuge in an abandoned house, and discover something among the rubble that they had only ever dreamt about.
