In the distant future, only the best of the best married the best of the best, so their children were blessed with great beauty, intelligence and skill. While the "unappealing" majority and their children served the "blessed" minority.

What was once Australia, Europe, America and Asia, became a huge country named Odeia, ruled by monarchy, with a few mayors scattered throughout.

The rest became "Lesser". Lesser territory was larger, and they were a force to be reckoned with. While the Blessed trample over the Lesser, Ordinary-the people within the line between Blessed and Lesser-live inside Blessed territory, but is forced to fight the Lesser and defend the Blessed people.

Odeia's king has been successfully attacked, and the prince is next in line. But with fear of being in danger, The Lower Council has decided to choose the best fifteen young women fit to rule Odeia until death.

With approximately eight months left to live, The King and The Lower Council has to choose between the girls, while constantly fighting off the Lesser.

Within thirteen weeks, the Fifteen must go through a series of trials to test their skills to the limit.

This book constantly changes between characters, and their point of view of certain events. Which means, that every one of The Fifteen is a main character.
