It's not long after discovering that she's destined to bring magic back into the world, that Ianira realizes she's being hunted by the King. Although it takes them months longer than it took them for anyone else, Ianira is caught and sent to the castle to train and fight for the King and his men. The King's plan is awful enough as it is, but as Ianira learns more and more about the court she is now forced to protect and help the King control, she realizes what the King has truly planned is much, much, worse.
With no one to turn to but the Prince she despises for catching her, the maid intent on training her in her courtly ways, the commander who can't stand her presence for more than the required hour of training they have a day, the sassy healer who loves to taunt her and the soul mate she hasn't even met yet, Ianira has a lot on her plate.
