"The Animals" is a popular comic series, much beloved by many teenagers and adults alike. Annabeth Chase in particular adores the series, especially the main character, Equiria.
Percy Jackson only knows of it because he's friends with Annabeth and her brother, Dylan. He's heard her rave about the details so many times that he's pretty sure he can tell you the major plot points without ever having read it. Komodian, the dragon-based hero, has to be his favorite though. Not for any reason besides his name- it's a pun! Who can blame him?
Jason Grace, best friends with Percy Jackson and Dylan Chase, has only read the first few comics. His favorite character is Elapidus, mainly because he himself has fangs. But who wouldn't love a hero based off a cobra?
Thalia Grace loves the series. She's a big fan of the action in particular, her favorite being the more melee-based heroine Lupica.
Piper McLean has read the comics, but only at her best friend's request. Annabeth had pestered her to read them so many times that she finally gave in, even though she didn't pay much attention. But her best friend had been happy, so that was good enough for her. She's almost jealous of Veonir, who can turn into a hawk and soar away.
Unfortunately for them, they're about to learn the harsh truth: the comics are real. And they're the main characters.
