The Black Plague has wiped out more than 1/3 of Europe's population. Those affected by the plague usually didn't survive more than three days, but the few lucky ones who looked death in the face and lived are marked by a scar, a sign of what they endured. Called 'mercato' or 'marked,' these people shun them for what they represent and what they have spent so long trying to forget. Raven is a 16 year-old mercato who was orphaned by the plague. Lonely and desperate for money, Raven spends everyday hiding her own scar and waiting until she saves up enough to leave the city of Craigshire forever. But even three years after The Black Plague left Europe, Raven is still stuck. However when she is contacted by a group known as The Raven Society, and things in Craigshire begin to go amiss, Raven realizes that being mercato may not be so bad after all... Set in the fanatical world of medieval Italy, The Raven Society is a book that will keep you constantly on the edge of your seat and also will leave you haunted and wanting more even after you turn the last page.

The Blood Moon Festival is a deadly competition that selects the next generation of dragon riders. Most competitors spend their childhood honing their Divine - a rare, godlike power typically found in the ruling class. But Raven Black, a poor orphan with an unusually powerful Divine, spent her childhood breaking more laws than she can count. At sixteen, Raven's list of crimes is taller than she is, and she is paying the price for it. Caught and sentenced to death after a heist gone wrong, Raven figures her luck has finally run out. That is until a dragon rider sees potential in Raven's Divine and offers her a chance to avoid execution by competing in the Blood Moon Festival. With no other choice, Raven enters Skydescent, a castle where contestants train and form alliances. As the only ex-criminal, Raven figured she would be the most cutthroat, her competitors too worried about honor to get their hands dirty. But in Scadril, a powerful dragon is honor. 128 competitors enter the Blood Moon Festival, and each will do whatever it takes to come out on top.
