Harry life changed dramatically before he even had the ability to speak. Dumbledoore and the "light" had made a grave mistake. They figured that the Dursleys would put up with Harry until he was 11 and he would be of use. They were wrong. He was put in the foster system at age 6 and the never saw him again.
A war was raging and they needed their savior. They find him, but he is 16 and not at all what they expected.
