An unfortunate sister trio of ages 16, 12, and 6 are the children of an abusive alcoholic father, and an insane mother, the mother of whom lives in a long term mental help hospital. Their dad hits them, punches them, and so much worse, but they can't tell anyone, because if they do, they'd be separated into different homes, to live with different people, apart from each other. So they endure their drunk father's ways, because they have no other choice.
The oldest daughter, Sparrow, finds something to distract her from the violence, she finds a boy, rather he finds her. A boy named Luke Linnet, and suddenly, her life doesn't seem so bad. Luke's life isn't so perfect either though. His dad is cheating on his wife with another woman, and Luke is surprised by how much his parents relationship effects his life. Not only this, but Sparrow's life starts to effect him, a fact which he'll carry to the grave.
