Sacrifices for love ( Caroline and Damon )

On season seventh of The Vampire dairies we saw how Stefan give up his freedom in order to free Caroline his girlfriend and Alaric children from Cain ( the devil) . As i began thinking of that season i thought what would have happened if the writers took a different approach what if Caroline was the one who gave up her freedom and worked for the devil and Damon too for his brother. how would the dynamic be and what would have happened if Alaric wife came back from the dead for her two children.
