The world of Arengard is one of fantasy and magic, of myths and monsters. In this world where adventurers roam the lands, a small village lies disconnected from the rest of the world. They occasionally have visitors from other villages, cities and lands, but the people of Rorin Village are said to never leave the village, and spend their entire lives within it.

One boy in the village has just come of age. His name is Alphonse Loeher, commonly called "Al", and he dreams of faraway lands. He has heard tales from the bards that visit the village. The Sand Sea of the Western Deserts, The Unending Ocean and the Sea of Ghosts, and the Marble Palace of Amadriel. However, Alphonse knows his place and his role. The people of Rorin Village stay within the Talon Valley, and never leave, as is their way of life.
