Wrong.

The dragon was, in fact, the princess's closest friend. So, when the prince brutally butchers the creature, she is understandably upset. Rather than swoon at his feet or offer him a token of her gratitude, the princess takes up her own sword and swears revenge on the man who took her best friend from her.
