I lifted my hand to wipe a tear that trailed down his jaw. Pulling him down to me I whispered the one thing I never thought I'd tell him.

I tried to make sense of his words but they jumbled when the haze started to fill my mind. I lightly smiled up to him, feeling my hand go limp as I weakened. I distantly heard the wail of sirens but I could tell they weren't close enough to save me.
My breathing shallowed and black swarmed my vision as I felt Alex lay me down and kiss my forehead.
"I love you too." He whispered his voice breaking at the end, before rising off the floor. I watched his sneakers disappear from my vision and smiled, until I heard the masked man scream for mercy as a sickening crack echoed through the auditorium. Then it was quiet, and I followed the man into the darkness.
