Forest is a six year old girl with a kind heart who lives in a home that is quite the opposite. With abusive parents and social services that refuse to heed her pleas, she has her work cut out for her just to survive day to day.
Her one consolation comes with a puppy on the side of the road in a shoebox. After convincing Mother to let her keep the stray, Forest and Maggie, as she named the puppy, forged an inseparable bond. He's light in her broken home and even though her parents hate him, Maggie refuses to leave Forest alone.
However, as Mother grow more wicked each day and finds knew ways to impose a torturous lifestyle on her daughter, Maggie's secret comes closer to the light.
