"Why me?" she whispers, looking up at me with tears in her eyes. "I'm not special or beautiful like those other girls, yet you still choose me. Why?"
"You just answered your own question," I tell her.
"What?"
"I want you because you're not like any other girl. Those other girls throw themselves at me, and dress to impress. You don't do that simply because you don't care."
"But, I'm broken."
"And I want to fix you." Tears start spilling over the edge of her eyes. I wipe them away with my thumbs.
"Why?" she says.
"I want you here, with me, forever." She shakes her head and starts walking away from me. I grab her arm.
"What?" she asks, tears streaming down her face.
"I love you," I say for the first time. She looks down and turns to walk away. "Where are you going?" I ask. She looks up at me and smiles sadly.
"I don't get why I try so hard for you. You're not worth it. I know you don't actually love me."
"But I do. I swear on my life, I do. I love you with all of my heart." She keeps her head down but looks up at me through her lashes.
"I love you too," she replies. I take my hand in hers and we lock our fingers together. I smile softly at her, looking down into her eyes.
"Well. I guess we can love each other together. Forever."
