Alexis Case survived a plane crash into the Atlantic Ocean and became an unknown hero. No one really knows that she saved a little girl who would have died and no one knows that the pilot of the plane left her and the girl to die on the plane.

After the traumatic experience of watching others die and almost dying herself, one can only imagine what she's going through. She hides her pain from others, and no one knows she was on that plane except her two best friends: Jason and Kylie. She busies herself by studying and becomes the top student in her school, earning her the title of nerd.

What happens when she is asked to tell her story to a judge to get justice for Cassidy as well as for herself? Will she be able to relive the plane crash?

There's also a new guy at school this year and he has girls drooling over him; Cole Hoffman. He's cocky, has an ego the size of Texas, and doesn't care about anyone except for his best friend's sister: Cassidy.

On the same flight that Alex was on, his best friend Mike was flying with his sister and mother, and both were killed in the crash. Cole became the brother she no longer had.

Cole completely overlooks Alex and just sees her as the nerd he was paired with for chemistry, until one day she comes to school wearing Mike's old baseball jacket, and everything changes.
