After a lifetime of deception and duplicity, could you learn to trust again?

This is what Scott has to learn after a particularly painful existence, one that's almost been brought short many times. Being a seventeen year-old foster kid isn't exactly the best thing, especially when you're labeled a "problem child" and have "anger issues". Which is absolute crap, by the way. He knows that the only reason the system exists is money, and it's just a convenient way for assholes to get their daily dosage of child abuse in.

Luckily, he's almost old enough to age out of the system. One more year and he's on his own, right? He'll make it work... somehow. He just has to get through one last foster home, and not get kicked out for about a year. Easy-peasy.

The problem is... everyone is nice. Everyone. It's a little unnerving... there has to be something up.
His new brother, Alex, likes to knit and look at pictures of hot guys. And he's very, very, very nice. Too nice. His father, Evan, mostly stays in his room or is at work, which is suspicious on his own. Scott knows something is up, but what? Everyone seems to want to help him... but no, they'd gain nothing from it.

He'll have to make it on his own, then.

**TRIGGER WARNING: This book has characters with depression and characters with anxiety, with many mentions of suicide or suicidal thoughts. One character self harms and another considers, but does not. A character has panic attacks and flashbacks of prior abuse. One character has schizophrenia and has hallucinations. There is mention of underage drinking as well as mention of drug use. Please do not read if any of these things are triggers to you.**

WARNING: this book includes guns and physical violence. Feel free to click off if any of that makes you uncomfortable. This world is full of endless possibilities. Hybrids of all kinds, monsters which roamed the night, creatures everywhere! I could go anywhere, do whatever I wanted. Nothing could stop me!! That was until I came across these little villages and my mother always told me to stay away from them. "They see us as something wrong. They'll hurt and torture you, so promise me you'll stay away from them." My mother told me. I never thought much of it, but it always made me curious what was there. - Scott gasped as he realized he was late. This was his big day, he couldn't fail his parents by skipping. Scott ran towards the forest and banged into the wooden shed, grabbing the bow and satchel of arrows before dashing out to his post. The forest floor crunched beneath him and he panted quietly as he kneeled down. A twig snapped and Scott gasped as he saw bears and lions surround him. Scott shot at them and the arrow hit one of the lions, which all started to chase him. Scott screamed for help as he ran, trying to get out. Trying to find others who could actually save and protect him. ~•~ Scott is a hunter, who is actually a big scaredy cat and longs for a life different than the one he has, and Jimmy is a free bird who can do basically anything he wants. It all changes when Scott and Jimmy meet. Hybrids end up showing up more, some getting captured and hurt. After Scott realizes how bad his life is, he tries to make a getaway and Jimmy shows him the life he could have. (Cover art is not mine) This work belongs to me, @Seth189. I reserve the rights to this work and please do not repost it. It takes me a long time to come up with this stuff and it would be better to write your own work!!

'𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐧𝐚' - 𝘢 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵. | | ᥉tartᧉ꯭d ; 11/05/25 [ dd/mm/yy ] | ╰────────────────── •ᯓᡣ𐭩 Isaac Caden moved through life with a quiet emptiness he couldn't quite name, a subtle 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗻𝗮 carved into the center of his being. He remembered faces without voices, moments without meaning - like snapshots from a film with the sound turned off. Isaac never let anyone nor himself see what he truly felt; his emotions were locked away behind an unshakable calm, as if revealing them would only make the emptiness inside him more real. People said he was an asshole, distant, always somewhere else, but the truth was simpler: something was missing, a piece of himself that had slipped away long ago. And though he didn't know what it was, he felt its absence in every silence, every unanswered question, every dream he couldn't quite remember when he woke up. Isaac never thought he would understand himself internally, he wasn't even sure that there was anything beneath his shell, he felt hollow - like there was nothing special about his existence. Purely floating through life without meaning. After a long time of trying to read himself, he gave up. He didn't care to understand anymore, he thought there was no reason for him being on this earth - he was then brutally slapped in the face with hard proof that he was wrong. ────୨ৎ──── 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: This story contains harsh topics and language, if any of the following disturbs you, do not read.
