Monroe Learson is alone in every sense of the word. He has no one. His parents hate him with a burning passion and blame him for ever being born, as he was 'a mistake'. He's bullied excessively at school and he's mute as far as anybody knows. Technically he can talk, but chooses not to, knowing that nobody would listen to him in the first place. Everybody knows he's gay, no thanks to a past friend who he had opened up to and talked to, but they told the school a completely different story. Monroe doesn't understand why we can't all Love One Another??
