In the not too distant future of Africa, economies are taking nosedives and desperate governments take very drastic decisions about how to solve their problems alongside huge debts to foreign alliances. Suddenly, strange occurrences are sighted in different African countries that call for alarm - junkyards, abandoned property and facilities start disappearing into thin air and the news buzzes with a lot of hypotheses about the cause, the religious population even concluding that it is the end of the world. Matters get worse when people start to disappear too, leaving their clothes behind, including 27-year old mentally retarded Hakeem who is the white elephant of his family. He finds himself transported to a different place he learns to be a dimension called Detritus, which houses every existing thing and person the African society rejects or considers useless, ruled by the Junk Queen who seeks to recycle everything and everyone into very useful entities. There is more to discover about this realm: its history, the special abilities it grants citizens, the current ruler and the future that lies ahead. However, Hakeem is in for the shock of his life when he finally gets to learn about what existence of Detritus means to the fate of the African content, since there may be a thin line between salvaging and exploitation.
