    The big floods in 1870 changed the geography of the South. The survivors took years to settle down again and recreate society once more. A few generations later, Annabelle Mcgoldnick is engaged to a mysterious businessman from New Paris and plucked away from her simple life in Eauville, where her friends and family were all she knew.
    
    Reed Whitacre, her husband, is holding his past and its secrets well hidden for the young woman. He introduces her in a life of glamour and makebelief, a dangerous world from which he tries to protect her. But his past catches up with him and the risks he has taken, are demanding their toll. Separated by their enemies, Annabelle tries to rescue her husband, accompanied by some unlikely companions.
    
    A band of four completely different women learn that the world they have been living in their entire lives is nothing but a pretty facade for the dark secrets it holds. 
    
    The mission to rescue one man soon turns into a mission to save all what's dear to them. 
    
    One wife.
    One bitter fiancé.
    One housekeeper.
    One lady of the night.
