His coarse hand moved gently along my cheek in a caress and I leaned into his touch sighing. "God alone understands how your admission here fascinates and beguiles me. Mrs. Mayers, if only I had met you seven years ago...." His drunken slurs met my ears but I couldn't focus on his barely conscious state.
I wanted him to want me like my mind wanted him, if only for the moment things were perfect, I wasn't his barely sane untouchable, he wasn't just a dream. The fine line between hope and truth became one path for a final minute. His eyes locked with mine, the stark contrast in everything in the simple difference in our eyes.
Then he kissed me.
"OK miss Mayers I'm here to....- oh!" The door creaked a little and we turned to Mrs. Jones. Her face transformed from her usual slight smile to a deep frowning poker face. "Jones!" He exclaimed seeming to quickly sober up as he became fully upright. "I'll leave you to it Dr Cole. It seems that my services won't be needed tonight." She turned swiftly, closing the door after her with a finality that startled the both of us.
He ran his hand through his hair even as the collided events bubbled in my mind. "Shit!" He said suddenly heading to the door. In a second the door closed behind him leaving my thoughts and I to stew. "Shit is very right. If I wasn't crazy before I got here, I'm crazy now."
