Ten years ago, the war that almost destroyed the Wizarding World was over. Families were destroyed as the fallen soldiers on both sides were buried and honored. Death Eaters were put on trial and sent to Azkaban practically immediately, allowing the good to feel safe as they settled down to finally relax.
Lucius Malfoy made a deal with the Ministry, that he would take a life sentence so that his wife and son could be spared. Draco would lead a normal life, grow old and have children with a woman he will one day love and marry. Narcissa will be the grandparent Lucius knew he couldn't be, and, even though it broke his heart, Lucius took his sentence with dignity. As long as his family was safe.
One day, Lucius is found dead in his cell, and the Ministry is looking for vengeance. Ignoring the deal they made with the deceased, the Minister calls for the immediate arrest of Draco Malfoy, so that he could be placed on trial for his crimes against the Wizarding community over a decade ago.
And who else would Draco call to defend him besides the brightest attorney of her time, Hermione Granger?
