When nineteen-year-old drummer Myra Thomas decides to take a break from being in the spotlight, she's not sure what to expect. All she knows is that she deserves a break, no matter what anyone says.

For the past three years her life has revolved around making music and playing shows. She loves her job, thank God, but somewhere in the cycle she started to feel stuck. She's been paraded in houses, on carpets, at ceremonies. She's been followed, ambushed, and photographed until her life no longer feels like her own.

It feels like almost every detail in her life is constantly plastered across glossy magazine pages and gossip websites, not that she didn't expect that when her cousin Ronan asked her to drum for him four years ago.

Myra makes her escape early one morning-yes, while Northern Downpour (the band she's in) is on a two-month "retreat" in the Appalachian Mountains to write new hits for their third album-and makes a pit stop in Brooklyn to meet with an old friend before jet setting out of the country. Her final destination: Paris.

It's in Brooklyn that she meets Luca Sentry, a twenty-six-year-old NYPD police officer in the Special Victims Unit. After spending one night roaming the city's streets together, he tells Myra that he's leaving the next day to visit his family.

So, naturally, she goes with him.
