Back From the Dead

"Aw come on, Ronnie! It's just a high school diary. What, are you scared I'll learn who you had a crush on?"
I reached for the diary again but he stepped back.
"Sean. You're one of my best friends, but if you open that book it will all be over."
"Seriously Ronnie? You'll leave me behind because I read your old diary?"
"No. YOU'LL leave ME."
"I doubt it. We all did embarrassing things but-"
"Try me." I hold my hand out for the diary. He takes another step back.
"Just one exert. A random page."
"Sean, NO!"
I dive for the book as he opens to a random page. He dodges me and reads what he sees out loud.
"Dear Diary. My teenage angst has a body count..." He trailed off at the end and looked at me, all joking mannerisms gone.
"Veronica?"
