morana has always been aware of her abnormality.

from her first day on earth to the first day of freshman year, unusual things happen when morana is around: fires starting, water freezing, objects disappearing, animals dying. nothing is as it should be in her presence, and as a result morana is alienated from the students of rivermouth high school.

with no friends, no money, and no apparent future, morana's life seems to be on a downward spiral. but when a dark figure appears at her window in the dead of night, morana makes a promise. for a while things begin to get better--and then they get so much worse.

James is a young man with a good, good life.

He excells in every area: captain of the football team, impeccable grades, a pretty face, parents with an abundance of money. He's the golden boy of his small town, and is much too popular to be involved with the peculiar new girl, Morana.

However, fate has a different plan, and a school project draws both their lives disastrously close together. Soon, mysterious occurrences and a hooded stalker compell James to hunt for answers, unwittingly plunging him into a clouded, sinister world that makes his worst nightmares seem like daydreams.
