After Twilight Sparkle is hurt by her most of her friends and family after trying to tell them the truth about Queen Chrysalis, Princess Cadance takes in Twilight and teaches her the most extreme form of Magic. Normally, Twilight would have asked her mentor, Princess Celestia, for permission, but since she had hurt her as well, Twilight happily took Cadance's hoof.
When they disappeared for a year, everyone regrets their actions, but it was too late. Twilight didn't want to see her friends unless it was Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, or Spike. During the year, Twilight learns about the past Guardians and now it is her turn to be a Guardian.
