Lacuna: a blank space or missing part.
In this case in Chloe's heart their is a missing part were her family used to be.
Chloe lost her whole family in a blink of an eyes, her family was her whole life and she don't take it easy. She must learn how to go on without them. She moves in with her grandparents, in the town where she is born. It's a new life and new beginning.
And here life is about to get more messed up than it already is.
Will she be able to handle it or will she break. Torn in two?

I know it's dangerous but I ignore him, I keep my eyes shut and continue to rock myself back and forth, my hands blocking my ears. I didn't want to look at him, I didn't want to see those black orbs. When I turn the corner I see a boy about 20 and am hit with an overpowering smell something like fresh cut wood and autumn leaves. It is amazing. I see the guy turn towards me and duck behind the house I am standing by before he sees me. Nope! Not him! Not happening! I hear footsteps coming towards me and run. Into the woods I find a pine tree. Perfect! Pine trees are great hiding places. The branches hide you visually and the smell masks your scent. I climb up as quickly as I can and watch the guy approaching. He circles my tree looking around but eventually gives up and goes back towards the houses. "Mate!" My wolf happily purs. "Not him!"
