Her brother was off to college when she started high school. Everything almost basically fell apart. Oh. She was also bullied. He made her harm herself. 

But he moved away then moved back and is now nice to her?

Not to mention the town is small and he has the only huge house in the small town. People had thought he moved away but he was really at his uncle's house to have a get away from everything. He knew about Livia. Over the time he was at his uncle's ranch, he felt bad for what he did to Livia. But he never knew about harming herself until someone told the whole school she did.
