Jackie just moved to Alder Grove, a small, dead-end town in the forests of Northern California. In hindsight, moving there based on an ad in a pamphlet from the 1980s was a bad idea, but it's not like Jackie would admit that. Despite the meager wages, the constant nagging loneliness, and the ancient house she lives in that desperately needs repairs, she's doing fine. Don't get her wrong, Jackie is a woman of science and doesn't believe in silly things like ghosts, but there is definitely something malicious living in the woods around her house. Whatever it is, it was dangerous enough to drive away the previous owner of her home and sell it for cheap. When she meets a group of occultists at a library in town while running errands, she discovers that her beliefs might be challenged by the truth about the town. Yes, there is definitely something in Alder Grove, and ever since she moved into that damned house in the woods, it has been watching her.
