Everyone who has ever been in school knows the trappings of popularity. It is a concept that transcends every group, always ever present like some unwritten law. There are a select few that are meant to be adored, sought after, and envied. It is this concept which is the basis for Tyler Madison's radical restructuring of his high school. 

He has brought together all of the popular kids from the captains of sports teams to the whiz's on the debate team. Anyone with any kind of following has fallen under the Tyler Madison effect and with their unified front, they exert complete dominance over the student body.
