Het boek gaat over Emma, ze is de dochter van Emma Edwards maar wordt opgevoed door Leigh-Anne en Calum. Ze is 15 jaar en zit in het derde jaar van de middelbare school. Je zou denken dat iedereen vrienden met haar wilt zijn, maar dat is niet zo.
Emma heeft helemaal geen vrienden en iedereen heeft een hekel aan haar. Ze zijn allemaal jaloers en hebben natuurlijk ook alles gehoord over wat er gebeurd is met haar moeder. De meeste mensen geloven Perrie haar verhaal, omdat Perrie vrijgelaten is nadat ze Leigh-Anne had neergeschoten. Wegens gebrek aan bewijs.
Na al die jaren vind Emma het nog steeds gek dat Perrie vrijgelaten is. De politie heeft zelf gezien dat ze Leigh-Anne neerschoot, maar niemand wil er wat over kwijt.
