When a young human boy is stolen from his bed during the night, the thief that stole him is rewarded in the highest favor. Finally, a human being is present in the flesh. The thieves have been waiting a long time for the perfect human, and Franklin Nitherlith was surely it. They need to show Franklin the reason humans exist-- the "why" for which they've spent millennia searching behind their very existence-- so that Franklin can show the rest of the human race.

The Day We Left Earth
If we stayed there any longer, we would have died. Earth was no longer our home, but instead a barren waste land from which we had to escape. Its calm blue oceans were replaced by big empty pits, and the green grass which used to cover our planet has now died, leaving all ground we tread on brown. The sun was getting too close to earth.
