Myrine lives in a world without men, founded by a group of female professors from UCLA, who fled the mainland after The Great Tremor and its resulting wars and chaos. Tired of the warring ways of men, they built an all-female society based on the ancient Amazon warrior tradition.
When Myrine, a young warrior-in-training discovers 18 year old Tom, washed up on the beach, his father killed by sharks, she takes pity on him and hides him, disregarding the strict rules of her society. Myrine is training for her coming of age ceremony when she'll be presented with a ceremonial bow denoting her full warrior status.
But when Moira, her sister gives birth to a boy and Myrine witnesses the baby being cruelly ripped from her arms by The Nannies, she follows them into the forest and finds a secret place where male babies are kept until they're sent to an unknown destination.
