Infection

She was perfect. He was different. She was unique. He was mysterious. She hid a secret. He figured it out.

"Why do you always wear long sleeves, even in the warm weather?" I asked, walking side-by-side with her down the hall.

"I can't tell you." She responded, turning to me with fear and heartbreak in her beautiful, violet eyes. Why would she be heartbroken, though?

"Yes you can. You know you can tell me anything." I replied, now holding her shoulders tightly, so she was standing directly in front of me.

"No, you can't know this." She stated, not bothering to hide the coldness and sternness in her voice.

I couldn't do it anymore. I pushed her into one of the empty classrooms and shut the door behind us. I let one of my hands release her shoulder and swiftly pull her sleeve up her arm before she could react. I slowly backed away in shock and horror as I looked between her glowing tattooed arm and her fluorescent eyes.

"No!" She screamed, causing me to run backwards into the wall, tripping over a few chairs. She sank to the floor, her head in her hands, crying.
