In 1993 Marie Gesto disappeared after walking out of a supermarket in Hollywood. The case was quickly elevated by LAPD commanders from the Missing Person squad to he Homicide Division, where Harry Bosch was assigned to the case. But the young woman never turned up - dead or alive - and it was a case Bosch couldn't solve. Thirteen years later Bosch is in the Open-Unsolved unit, where he still keeps the Gesto file on his desk, when he gets a call from the DA's office. Raynard wait, a man accused of two heinous killings, is willing to come clean in regard to several other murders in a deal to avoid the death penalty. One of those murders, he says, is the killing and of making sure the killer is not scamming the authorities to avoid a date with death. In confirming the confession Bosch must get close to the man he has sought - and hated - for thirteen years. Bosch's whole being as a cop begins to crack when he comes to realise that he and his partner missed a clue back in 1993 that could have led them to waits and would have stopped the nine murders that followed the killing of Marie Gesto.

There was only IRENE who is investigating on her own when the killings started until her ex-boyfriend-KLAUDIUS, teamed up with her to solve cases together. But their world turned upside down as they caught someone that knows the secret of the school, but not only that, a certain someone also heard them talking which lead them to create a quadrumvirate they never asked for. But it's a risk forming a team when you can't trust one another completely. They can't help but point their finger against each other as their secret is revealed, worse, only the four of them remained and their comrade died suddenly in a snap of a finger. How can Klaudius prove his innocence when the evidence says otherwise? Irene's vision darkened as she found out the real culprit and ended up killing him. She realized what she had done and immediately went outside to surrender to the police, only to find out, that she's been tricked.
