Alice McCormick is a 16 year old girl who is ridiculed and hated in her Arizona town of Break Thriven, where the people are near-murderous after a seriously traumatic event that happened in the streets of that very town. Soon, Alice begins to see things that people say are not there, she has awful nightmares that are all to real, and her heart stops, with no medical explanation why. Her father is an alcoholic, and her mother is morbidly depressed, Alice has no friends, and she is contemplating suicide.
This all changes when Alice is put on Landerwon, an alternate, civil war-torn universe. There are no civilians anymore, just the Landerwon Special Forces, and The Resistance. Alice meets people in the latter she respects like brothers and sisters, and Alice prefers this place to home.
But the very existence of Landerwon, and herself, are called into question, and the hallucinations become hard to distinguish from reality. Alice must find the truth, with help from Tibbar and Ecila, her team, and some very strange pills. That is, if she isn't killed first.

We all have those weird dreams where we fight dragons, dream of a 'happily ever after'...or in my cousin Alice's case; make friends with a unicorn that literally poops edible rainbow candy. Alice and I, along with our friend Zero, help my aunt and uncle clear out their basement during spring break while they went away for their wedding anniversary. It all started when I ever so gracefully (but accidentally) tripped over a cupboard box (which in my defence, I never knew was there) with the words: 'Fragile - DO NOT TOUCH', written in black marker all over the box. While Alice and I were arguing, Zero tried to grab our attention. When he finally did, we were surprised to see him being sucked into a freakin' green swirling portal! Turns out, inside the box I tripped over had a crystal ball rolled out of it, and glowed a bright green. That was when we realised that that crystal ball, was the reason why a portal appeared and was trying to pull us in. And of course...I got separated from them, didn't I? Would you believe me if I told you we entered the world of our favourite movie when we were kids? You know...the Dreamworks movie, Shrek? The one with the fairy tale and Disney characters in? Yep, that's the one! Oh, sorry!
