Fire is a dangerous force to play with. However, ever since young Cassidy Forrest was suddenly gifted with the power to control it, she has had to reckon with the substance. CIPP, also known as Calderon's Institute for Paranormal Protections, is an organization known for giving direction to newly created 'Superhumans'. It takes a while for Cassidy to trust the tall, totally formal worker called Grant who drove all the way to her home promising to protect her.
But when an unexpected delay slows their arrival to the institute, Grant and Cassidy find themselves trying to work out her power on their own. Is this a good idea? Or will him making her let her guard down be a great mistake?
It seems Cassidy's ability is irresistible to many, and the bearer of flames must only give to those who take sparingly.

Learn how a spirited and resourceful 12-year-old boy ousted his Plainsman oppressors in this prequel to the Forestfolk series. A little shoutout to maniacgirl for inspiring the title of this story. Though the events in this short story take place before Book 1 in the series, I recommend reading it AFTER you finish "Siena." I think it will be more satisfying that way, because then you'll understand the little Book 1 references I've planted here and there. Finally, the format of the title and cover for this story is different from the rest of the series. That's because I consider this to be bonus material rather than a continuation of the series. It's only 12 chapters long. I may change the cover at some point, but in the meantime, this is what I have. :)Complete
