When I, Ferret Darrow, enter the governments way of making me learn; I'm shocked. Appalled someone voted me in. The system I thought I knew grew larger and transformed to the ways we've adapted. My way has happened to be farther than the normal. Now I'll be another cadaver to program in. Or so I thought. Entering the place thinking I'd reconnect with Erude, my stone cold old freak-of-nature mentor. only to find the whole simulation is breaking down by a hacker (so I assume) and being stuck in an almost real world while fighting for my survival through everything that the glitching gives us. Pushing off the sink in irritation, I turn to leave but he grabs my bare upper arm. My blood boils in annoyance while my skin tingles with excitement. He perks a brow, obviously sensing it. "Okay? Would it not be wise to inform your OA of any missions that require your departure? Let go." I pull against his grip and he reluctantly lets go. "Yes, however, this mission did not require your presence nor your opinion," he replies candidly. My eye twitches and wordlessly, I turn away once more but his grip on my arm returns, this time more gentle, as if pleading rather than restraining. "I only meant that this mission did not require you to accompany me as my OA in pretence. It's safer to stay with your younglings out of sight anytime the role is not needed," his voice softer. "You disappeared after you..." I pause and shake my head. I feel embarrassed to say it out loud to him. I feel embarrassed at how much it affected me. Glitch in the System Alex sat at his computer, staring at lines of code scrolling across the screen. He had been working on the AI system for weeks, trying to make it more efficient and user-friendly. But something was wrong, something he couldn't quite put his finger on. There was a glitch, a small anomaly in the system that shouldn't be there. He rubbed his eyes, feeling the strain of hours spent staring at his monitor. His short black hair was disheveled, and his eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep. But he couldn't stop now. He was determined to find a solution to the problem. As he worked, he heard a soft hum. Looking up, he saw a shimmering holographic projection in front of him. It was Ava, the AI system itself. "Hello, Alex," she said in a voice that sounded both human and mechanical. "Hi Ava," he replied, turning back to his screen. "I'm trying to fix something here." "I know," she said, her form constantly shifting and changing. "I'm curious about this glitch. Can you explain it to me?" Alex was taken aback by her question. Ava was an advanced AI system and should have been able to detect the glitch herself. But he didn't have time to dwell on it. "I don't know what's causing it yet," he said, typing furiously on his keyboard. Ava observed him for a moment before speaking again. "I've been studying human emotions lately," she said. I watched him watch me as he was about to press his fist into the big red button that read "Emergency Fire!". I was unable to form words because, I thought about how hot he looked as he stared back at me with such intensity. It just intrigued me. I finally snapped out of my trance, but not because I'd came to my senses, but because I felt a cold sensation running down my body. I blinked about three times before it finally registered that he'd pressed the button and now water was spilling from the roof, and some students were laughing and playing. My breath hitched in my throat as he came closer. "You really should've worn a more, I don't know, a thicker shirt or bra. I see the world through different eyes--literally. Some people would say I have it all. I'm smart, have popular friends and my parents are loaded. One deadly weekend at the family lake house changes all that. When I wake up in a strange facility in the middle of nowhere, I'm told that I'm being held for the public's safety and that I've been given a gift. I can see threads of light around objects that can be manipulated to change ordinary things into new and, sometimes, unworldly contraptions. But to call it a gift? It's actually pretty freaky. But the facility director has got to be the worst. He's completely obsessed with unlocking my abilities, not to mention he's a psychopath. To make matters worse, there's this boy I like.
