Entering the place thinking I'd reconnect with Erude, my stone cold old freak-of-nature mentor. only to find the whole simulation is breaking down by a hacker (so I assume) and being stuck in an almost real world while fighting for my survival through everything that the glitching gives us. [Wattys2018 Shortlist] [Bootcamp Mentorship Mentee 2020] [Insidious Awards - 1st place/Action/Adventure] "Squinty, I... Help me! Please! You have to help me!" Squinty huffed at him as the horse might snort at an annoying fly it couldn't get rid of. "A...a... an apple," he stammered. "I just... stole an apple!" ---- When water is controlled by those in power, even a mere apple can be a catalyst. For Squinty, it was the start of everything. Finding Grizzly. Losing Roko. Becoming a Vigil. Discovering she had the power to become invisible. For Nalina, the threat of a new Water War was even closer to home; her beloved brother was the one initiating it. To Drian, water formed the core of his belief system, defined who was - and was not - worthy, and justified the treatment of the underground-dwelling Wellers. An orphan girl, determined to do what was right. A princess, petitioning for peace. An abbot, torn between his religion, and his experience. Each with an Etching, a unique power that surely makes them special; a tie to something more, something extra, something beyond the Squareworld. So that was the deciding factor. It became my inspiration, my reason for resorting to such seclusion. I had always needed my own space for working, which is why even when I worked in the hospital I never allowed for a nurse or doctor or any other person to be in room, except me and the patient. I am unable to perform my work with prying eyes staring me down and questioning me, questioning my methods and maybe even questioning my humanity. Thus, when she stopped living here by my side, I took that as my cue to quit working in the hospital. ---- Dr. Roy Andrews, a highly credible neurosurgeon has a knack for solving cases of comatose. His methods, however, are questionable. And highly unorthodox. He enters the patient's minds. Despite that factor, he has never once messed up a case. He has never once lost somebody. However, when patient Kester Montgomery arrives under his care, the circumstances of his case baffle Dr. Andrews, leading to the possibility of a detrimental outcome. As Andrews ventures through the depths of Kester's mind, he finds out what working on a case of mental instability is like. ***Cover photo does not belong to me.
