Peni Wyr, a preteen girl ushered away from dangers to magickind, and a few other magicians are sent to a stable in the rural Midwest. There, she learns that their new safe haven is also the same place she'll use her magic. Among a snarky telekinetic, a brooding ex-government operative, and an immigrant escaping persecution, Wyr must measure up to explosive orbs, electrical generation and manipulation, and more as their new home welcomes more than she bargained for. In the city, unfortunate mishaps leads a head scientist to discover the disappearance of monitored magicians, discovering their whereabouts and assembling a weapon that changes everything.
