If anyone knew of your existence, besides the king, all hell would break loose. Why you may ask? Well Voltron is powered by Altaen energy, right? Wrong. Its powers come from you, and for that reason you must hide in the castle for protection, so the power of Voltron would be safe. 
When the Galra threat was highest you offered to give more power in order to make Voltron and lions stronger. But your father would not allow it. Doing so would likely kill you. You were not strong enough as a 15 year old, still a child. But you wouldn't give up easily; you had given Voltron so much, why stop now?
