"Let me offer you a deal," she snarled, playing with the die in her hands.
I peek out at her from under my eyelashes. Her expression is cautious, calculating.
"If I roll a 1, 2, or 3, we laugh this off. We pretend it never happened, and we move on."
I consider her words. She continues. "If I roll a 4 or 5, I win. If I roll a 6, you win."
The deal obviously isn't a fair one, or a rational one- on either of our parts. But I knew the reward of winning, and I knew the cost of losing. Her grin stretched wider, her cockiness apparent. Weighing my options, I let out a long sigh. Then I surprise not only her but also myself.
"Deal."
She rolls the die.
