Independence Day/Hospital Stay

Not a story, but a poem inspired by a number of events occurring on and around July 4th, 2017 ranging from a friend's suicide, another friend's suicide attempt on the same day, and the looming threat of the AHCA's passing.

This poem utilizes short lines and rhyme/slant rhyme with imagery to evoke not only a troubled character, but a scene indicative of the current state of the nation's mentally ill and the for-profit nature of many medical practitioners and healthcare organizations.
