În anul 1998, Brian Bethel, jurnalist la ziarul „Abilene Reporter" din Abilene, Texas, a publicat un articol în care relatează straniile întâmplări de care acesta a avut parte cu doi ani înainte. Indiferent dacă alegeţi să credeţi următoarea legendă urbană, sau nu, trebuie să ştiţi că persoanele despre care se vorbeşte aici sunt cât se poate de reale.
Deşi articolul a fost publicat abia în 1998, întâmplarea prezentată a avut loc în vara anului 1996. Brian se afla în oraş când şi-a amintit că avea de plătit o factură de internet. A tras maşina pe dreapta, lângă un cinematograf, şi şi-a scos carnetul de cecuri cu intenţia de a scrie un cec pentru compania de cablu.
Nu a apucat însă să oprească bine când a auzit un ciocănit în geam. Când şi-a ridicat privirea, Brian a zărit doi băieţi (nu mai mari de 16 ani). Ambii purtau hanorace cu glugă şi stăteau în dreptul portierii maşinii.
