"Sometimes you just have to ride the wave you're given.
Maybe that's a metaphor for the story I'm about to tell you..."
Almost-sixteen-year-old Kai is a passionate surfer, living on the Hawaiian island of Molokai with her mother and half-sister. Her best friend (and maybe something more) Mak has been teaching her to surf ever since she saw her other best friend, Aris, doing it when they were young. Kai has never left the island and dreams of the life Aris has, traveling around the world competing in all sorts of surfing competitions and winning international championship titles, but can't afford it.
However, those dreams could suddenly become reality when an unlikely disaster strikes the island. An oil freighter runs aground approximately 2 miles off the island, polluting the water around it. The oil is quickly cleaned up by the government, but little did they know, some of the oil had seeped through the sand and into the aquifer which supported the entire island, causing many of those who drank it to become sick, including Aris. Unable to compete in the International Surfing Championships, Aris gives the money to Kai to go compete and use the grand prize of 1 million dollars to clean the aquifer. And with the help of Mak, whose feelings for Kai continue to grow, the championship title just might be possible.

Elliot Jensen and Elliot Fintry have a lot in common. They share the same name, the same house, the same school, oh and they hate each other but, as they will quickly learn, there is a fine line between love and hate.
